  • Prompt: What are you cooking these days?
  • Hi I’m Councilmember Hernandez and today I’m going to show you traditional rice, Spanish Rice.  First of all you want to put about 2 tablespoons of olive oil [in the pan] and brown the rice. Usually takes about a minute or two. After the rice has browned to a golden brown you add the garlic. About 2 cloves minced garlic. And you want to stir this together and you will see that it is starting to brown a little bit more. At this time you want to add about 1 cup of tomato sauce. For a little bit more flavor you add about 2 cups chicken broth. If you want to go vegetarian you can just use water or vegetable broth. [Stirring] You will add 1 teaspoon of cumin, ½ teaspoon of oregano and some slices of onion. You are going to let that boil. If you do not have onion eaters you can take it out with a spoon or fork. Add sat to taste, I always add just enough. As well as pepper. You can always add some cayenne pepper for a little bit of spice. You bring this to a boil for about 20 minutes and that is your Spanish Rice. Once you Spanish Rice is complete you can serve with any of your main dishes.
